Observation of Extended Red Emission ( ERE ) in the halo of M 82 ⋆
نویسندگان
چکیده
Low-dispersion spectra have been obtained from 4000 to 9600Å along the axis and across the dusty halo of the galaxy M82. The spectra of the halo are explained in terms of scattering of the galactic light by dust grains: when divided by the spectrum of the galaxy, they reveal a broad emission band, similar to, although wider than the bump of Extended Red Emission (ERE) commonly observed in galactic reflection nebulae. The feature is particularly well marked in the filamentary parts of the halo. This is the first detection of ERE outside of our Galaxy.

Extended red emission ( ERE ) detected in the 30 Doradus nebula ?
We present low-dispersion visible spectra of two regions of the 30 Doradus nebula. When corrected for atomic continuum emission and divided by the spectrum of the exciting and illuminating stars, one of the two spectra clearly shows Extended Red Emission (ERE) superimposed on the scattering component. This ERE band peaks around 7270Å and is 1140Å width. HAC grains are found to explain the obser...

the date of receipt and acceptance should be inserted later Abstract. Possible forsterite nanoparticle model of the Extended Red Emission(ERE) is proposed on the basis of photo-luminescence of forsterite after gamma-ray and neutron irradiation. Forsterite exhibits interesting thermoluminescence spectrum similar to ERE of Red Rectangle after irradiation in low temperature. It is shown that the f...
متن کاملExtended Red Emission: Photoluminescence by Interstellar Nanoparticles
Interstellar dust in nebulae and in the diffuse interstellar medium of galaxies contains a component which responds to illumination by ultraviolet photons with efficient luminescence in the 500 nm to 1000 nm spectral range, known as Extended Red Emission (ERE). We review the techniques of detection and the observational characteristics of the ERE in a wide range of astrophysical environments. W...

متن کاملObservational constraints on the ERE interpretation ⋆
Empirical relationships on the properties of the Extended Red Emission (ERE) are presented. They are based on published observational data and on new results obtained on reflection nebulae illuminated by cold stars. The plot of the width versus the central wavelength of the ERE band is in agreement with laboratory properties of the materials commonly proposed as the ERE carriers. But this is no...
